9.8% of all Reading households now living in fuel poverty

As energy bills keep going up on a yearly basis, more and more households across the UK are being pushed into fuel poverty and, unfortunately, that's also the case across a slightly well off area of the country, namely Reading.

In fact, according to a recent news report, 9.8% of the 6,239 households in the borough were spending more than 10% of the household income on heating bills in 2011. This compares to 5,522 homes in West Berkshire (8.7%) and 4,412 in Wokingham (7.2%).

Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) figures released last month seem to indicate that the number of people in fuel poverty across the country in 2011 reached 4.5 million, a 250,000 drop on 2010.
